The Archivi Guttuso provide scientific advice to authorities, institutions, art collectors and scholars interested in Renato Guttuso.

In particular the Archivi Guttuso take care of the Organization of diplays and exhibitions, researching, documenting and cataloguing Guttuso’s work.

Certification of authenticity

The Archivi have carried out a complete cataloguing of Renato Guttuso’s painting, establishing a reference for the art market. Each work is carefully examined, compared with documents owned by the Archivi, and finally supplied with a cataloguing number corresponding to a record in the Archivi files, representing the main guarantee of authenticity. This activity, started when Guttuso was still alive, has benefitted from the collaboration of Enrico Crispolti, with whom the four volumes of the catalogue raisonné of Guttuso’s paintings were realized. In the meantime the Catalogue of drawings and graphics is in progress.

Major art galleries and auction-houses normally apply to the Archivi Guttuso for the cataloguing of works.

The Archivi Guttuso collaborate with the police, in particular with the special squad of the Carabieri for the protection of the artistic heritage, and with the Italian courts in the struggle against the falsification of Guttuso’s works.

The arrangement of exhibitions

Advice in this field can be accomplished through services ranging from scientific assistance for publications to editorship of volumes, the singling out of paintings particularly suited for an exhibition and the whole organization of exhibitions and scientific conferences.

In this capacity the Archivi Guttuso have cooperated with major European Museums such as the Tate Gallery (London), the Whitechapel Art Gallery (London), the Kunsthalle (Tübingen) and the Kunstmuseum (Düsseldorf), as well as with Italian institutions such as the Ministry for the Cultural Heritage, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Municipality of Palermo, the Teatro Massimo (Palermo), the Teatro alla Scala (Milan).

Documentation and cataloguing

The Archivi Guttuso preserve all the rich documentary and photographic material collected by Renato Guttuso. This material, now perfectly ordered, allows the Archivi to provide documents concerning not only Guttuso’s paintings but also the various periods of his life, his relationships with friends and intellectuals, etc.

A relevant section, whose ordering is presently in progress, contains writings and letters.

Slides and photographs of Guttuso’s works can be rented and used for pubblication.

All Guttuso’s works are subject to copyright law, which is enforced by the SIAE.

All the above-described services are provided on payment; the proceeds go to cover the operating expenses of the Archivi Guttuso, which is a non-profit-making Association. Archivi Guttuso can be got in touch with at the following address:
